Dear Larry:

Thanks I agree we use words, some times, with different meaning
attached to them.

>From what we read in and of Theosophy -- which is the WISDOM
RELIGION, and is ageless -- a statement of facts in nature --
hence inclusive of science and philosophy. It ante-dates
Buddhism as all other “World-Faiths.” To us, this age-old system
of wisdom and information is incredible, as we have been shorn of
almost all knowledge of the past. Can you imagine what progress
history and archeology would make if the Theosophical dates alone
were considered valid ? Even if we become familiar with another
couple of religions we learn an enormous respect for TRUTH as
being able to continue, in spite of so many distortions,
obscurations and twists.

One has to be familiar with both ISIS UNVEILED and The SECRET
DOCTRINE to realize this.

H P B says positively that The SECRET DOCTRINE teaches HISTORY.
( S D I 267 top)

A “belief” or a “faith” -- until proved to ones’ self -- is a
condition of ignorance In such a state we rely on the veracity
and trustworthiness of others. In such a case, the sooner we
prove or disprove those items of information (or wisdom) the
better for us. The Bible has been manipulated for centuries and
the search for primary documentation under way has merely gone to
confirm the accuracy of H P B’s statements in ISIS UNVEILED, for
instance.

Then we cease to “believe” and KNOW.

If you study chemistry in college first you get the theory, and
then demonstration, and finally you do it yourself fin the
lab --- When it comes to dealing with ideas, we are poorly
trained in logic veracity, and accuracy. Our power of attention
is usually so minute that maintaining a single idea and pursuing
it for more than a minute is rather rare.

So we do not have a physical lab to experiment in. The best we
can do is to generate the broadest and most universal thoughts
and conclusions, trying to take into account all factors.

Now those who have been raised in Christianity, Judaism, Islam,
etc… have additional strikes against them: They are not well
aware of the actual immortality of the human Soul/Mind., they do
not know of pre-existence or of reincarnation and they have been
repeatedly told that KARMA is a myth, and if one can get away
with evil doing without detection, it is a plus for them in this
short life of many accidents and crises. Their (our) whole sense
of morality and ethics has been blunted.

Now every great religion will be found at source to contain these
ideas. Why ?

Why have they been abandoned? What then, can we learn from
Theosophy? The “missing links” in philosophy and in logical
thought.

Another important strike against us is the idea we are born in
sin. Why and How is not logically explained. Why should eating
the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge be either insane or dangerous?
Why would an omnipotent and omnipresent God fear mortals that
learned how to think for themselves? Or is it the priests who
fear that ?

You will find that the Masters of Wisdom refer to the Buddha as
their Patron.-- “ patron of all the adepts, the reformer and
the codifier of the occult system …” [Barker Edn. p. 43 MAHATMA
LETTERS ] They speak of him as a living man an actual fact that
they can contact ands secure his wisdom at first hand. Not dead
and disappeared.

Best wishes,

Dallas

Dear Dallas,

I think you and I are using the word "religion" differently.
That's a layman's term anyway. Sociology uses the term "World
Faith" to denote the broadest category of belief. And in any book
you read, Buddhism is classified as a world faith. Also, agreed
that the teachings of Buddhism in general are closer to Theosophy
than others. I've never disputed that.

Larry
