Have you heard the old spiritual story about a thirsty man who knew there was
water just below the surface and started digging? After 2 feet he found
nothing, so he dashed away to another spot and dug again -- and so it
commenced. He dug over 500 feet but never found water and died. Why, because
he did not dig 500 feet in one spot, but kept digging dozens of shallow wells.

In meditation we are taught to focus on one thought, image, feeling etc. and
stay focused.

Staying focused on one real path is far better than jumping to another one.
One man's focus is another man's fetters; it depends on much energy we put
forth in the right direction.
