The Hyksos (literally Shepherd Kings) were actually driven out by
Ahmose I, who founded the Eighteenth Dunasty. That was 500 years
before the exodus, which makes Jerualem some 3800 years old. Manetho
says Moses sent an embassy to Hierosolyma (the ancient name for
Jerusalem) to enlist their aid in his campaign against Egypt. That
of course would have heightened the anxieties of the Egyptians, who
were already fearful of being overrun bu foreigners.
