Mauri,
Years ago I read Mead and in one of his works he mentioned the 
"Kanoun"
which is a symbolic basket held by the two cherubim on each side of the 
Babylonian/Sumerian Tree of Life, they are Eagle headed winged beings. I 
tried 
to find which work I saw it in but so far I haven't found which but will 
continue to seek
the reference. I seem to remember that the Kanoun was the Sacred basket 
which
represented the Edicts of Deity.
