Mauri,
No, I took my Lay Vows from the Venerable Tripitaka Master Hsuan Hua,
the Abbot
of the City of Ten Thousand Buddha's at Talmidge California. They have a
University
there in the Monastery and award Certified Degree's to include Ph.D.
I highly recommend the offered Sutra's especially the Great Shuramgama
and the
others. Tripitaka Master Hua personally discoursed them. In the classes
for the
Monks he places the work to his forehead, lays it down and teaches and
writes
on the blackboard.
He is passed to the other shore. I witnessed him wafting across the
Temple floor one
night growing tall, then short as he crossed diagonally across to met me
and the
"Clock Monk" an American Caucasian.
Ch'an is the transliteration of the Sanskrit Dhyana and which later when
transmission arrived to Korea and Japan became transliterated to "Zen"
and also
to Tibet, the Tibetan transliterate into the Tibetan equivalent for
Sanskrit Dhyana.
