Steve,
Have you read G. R. S. Mead's "Fragments of a Faith Forgotten?" It
seems like
you have. Also In his "Pistis Sophia(Faith Wisdom}" we find the
Mystery Play
about the Cosmic Creation involving Yaldabaoth and his 7 Archons.
Yaldabaoth
was called "The Abortion of Sophia" in this Gnostic Mystery Drama. One
day
he proclaims "I Am God - and there is none Above Me!". Sophia, the
inseparable
Consort of the Father overhears him utter this thought from the
Heights of the
Superior Plane from which she had cast Yaldabaoth into a Lower Realm,
and
calling down to Yaldabaoth below tells him "Say not that Yaldabaoth,
for there
is yet One above thee". In this construction Yaldabaoth performs the
function of
the Demiurgos and Creator of the Material Creation along with his
Seven Archons.

Thanks to the publication of long lost works we can glean a window
into the actual
tenets held by some of these today obscure groups.

The Nag Hammadhi Library is a Treasury of these Documents recovered
after so
many centuries of exile.

John
