Hi Brian and all of you,
Yes. A good question.
And I would also like to get a good answer on that from others on this list.
One view of my own is:
You could ask your selves :
How many (white) members are there of Martin Luther King Jr.'s organization
?? -!!!
(They - the members are of course not Theosophists - dead-letter speaking.
But they soon can become - learned in wisdom teaching, that is if they
read - Kings - speeches and writings).
That is my view.
We will have to look at Theosophy, not only as Theosophy - dead-letter, but
as Wisdom teaching.
Wisdom is hidden in uselfish actions.
It is true - there is a lot of racism "flowering" around the globe !!!
And only few have forgotten 2nd World War, its racism - and Hitler.
And also karmically speaking past lives makes people - think with fear about
other races.
At present the journalists and News-informers are doing a strange effort to
make people into racists.
Dividing people - into people from EAST, Middle EAST, WEST, or North, SOUTH,
Afro-american etc...
And sometimes I wonder if - some of the journalists of today - are fast
reincarnated SS-journalist - from
Hitlers - propoganda schemes in the 30'ies and 40'ies, where he got a lot of
them educated in journalism.
Only a the introduction of a GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE of the Wisdom teaching of
all ages past will - these days - help the Planet forward towards peace and
equality.
Blavatsky really sought that global perspective.
(Sadly: Some organizations who call themselves Theosophical and teachers of
wisdom etc.. - are today really doing bad PR on this).
TRUE Theosophy is also the WISDOM RELIGION of ages past. This true - WISDOM
RELIGION is not RACIALLY discriminating. But, true, Blavatsky did write some
words in her famous book The Secret Doctrine which COULD BE -
interpreted -contradictive to this view. But let us remember, that the book
was written in around the year 1888. At that time racism against Africa or
raqcist views was still very commen - in the richer parts of the english
speaking societies, even in the english parliment at the time. So Blavatsky
deliberately weiled her message by the use of the words 'black' and 'white'.
That was I think (sad as it is) also why the book The Secret Doctrine got
success. But other parts of the book is clearly against an interpretation of
a negative discriminating racist view a such.
I have to say Blavatskys talk about black and white was - MUCH MORE - a talk
about colors of peoples Aura and mentality, and not (dead-letter) the color
of their skin.
Her writings is all in all a clear witness on that she wasn't a racist.
Her own acceptence of the Law of Karma is one issue, which confirm this !!!
And also Blavatsky has mentioned, that her book (The Secret Doctrine)
shouldn't be read - by the dead-letter. One should use the 7 keys ! So I
suggest - let us please - try to read that book allegorical,
piktographically, etc...
Yes we could say that The Secret Doctrine is a little old for its time,
because of the use of words. But Blavatsky didn't promise anything else. The
book was to last a 100 years (minimum) as good solid wisdom teaching. And it
has done that. (There is a quote on that by Blavatsky in The Secret
Doctrine).
So I hold it to be a misinterpretation to think of Blavatsky as being a
racist, and to think, that the book The Secret Doctrine is a manifest for
the overthrow of other races !!!
What is your answer to that ?
