Dennis,
I assume you have the Health Research version. My 1879 Hardbound 
original
is limited to 384 pages. Makes me curious as mine is a "Seventh 
Edition-revised
and enlarged",perhaps it is only the typeset and requisite expansion 
accounts for the page diference.

Certainly books like his create much controversy that's for sure! But 
from the
perspective of the 10-fold avatara cycle, primary, 8 minor, and 
culmination in
fullness the many identities he enlists have some integral purpose.
