"I admit the truths that Theosophy seeks to unveil" (Aurobindo)
That's enough for me -- as far as accepting the scientifically consistent
metaphysical truths taught by HPB in the Secret Doctrine. (So much for
Brian's/Brigitte's past denials, specious contrary arguments, and
non-sequitur references.)
The rest of Aurobindo's diatribe would seem be just the personal and
prejudicial ravings of an angry priest-pope-yogi-guru who saw that theosophy
was taking away his (and his caste's) source of income and power... Because
the teachers of theosophy were telling the Indian lower castes that the
Brahmans were not the only source of the sacred wisdom, and that the Brahman
Priest-yogis were actually their caste-enforcing "slave masters." Also,
theosophy's metaphysical teachings -- especially related to karma and
reincarnation, that were closer to the Buddhists' (Hindu reformers) concepts,
and were in direct contradiction to the Hindu teachings (e.g., men can
reincarnate as animals) -- gave him another reason to lose his cool when it
came to spouting off about leading theosophists and their (post HPB)
dictatorial TS organization. Note; He specifically targeted Annie Besant and
her authoritative christianized version of theosophy that was accepted by the
TS... And not HPB, or her direct teachings which denied the "authority" of
both herself or the "Mahatmas," and spoke directly to the "Truth" as it is --
in fulfillment of her motto, "There Is No Religion Higher Than Truth."
