Dear Jerry:

Obviously terms differ in usage. I merely quote what H P B
our primary teacher in Theosophy says. Word have power.
The THEOSOPHICAL GLOSSARY is one source -- I assume we are
all studying it together.

It is up t individuals to make what they can of the
information. There is no coercion and also no one is an
"authority."

Of course you are right that motive is everything. I deem it
we are all seeking to discover exactly what the idal or best
motives consist in.

Best wishes,

Dal

Subject: Goetia

<<<First make sure you understand what GOETIA means. I find
in the
THEOSOPHICAL GLOSSARY by H P B that under the heading MAGIC
( p. 197) she
says categorically, uncompromisingly, that GOETIA is BLACK
MAGIC.>>>

Dallas, respectifully, you apparently do not understand what
Goetia is. I have
used it for years as part of Enochian Magic. If you honestly
think that
shamanism, which also includes goetia-type magic, is black
magic than I feel
sorry for you. Of course Frank once called me a black
magician because of my
work in Enochian Magic, so ...

The above is an excellent example of one of the points that
I have been trying
to make. A LITERAL INTERPRETATION OF BLAVATSKY SOMETIMES
LEADS TO ILLOGICAL
CONSEQUENCES. This is one of those times. To say that Goetia
magic is always
black magic is incorrect (and grossly unfair). When Dallas,
or anyone else,
takes a quote from Blavatsky to "prove" something, it can
sometimes lead to
showing ignorance about a subject.

Blavatsky, Judge, G de P and others have all said that
whether magic is black
or white depends on the motive. The motivation for shamans
to control spirits
is normally in order to help others, usually for healing or
purification, and
so is white magic. So if we don't know what goetic is, and
depend on Blavatsky
quotes, then whether goetia is black or white likely will
depend on which
quotes we want to throw out.
