Sharon has a hidden agenda. The only thing we know
for sure about it is that he wants to keep the pot
boiling, but the underlying motive is not clear.

The most graphic recent proof of this was the
proclamation by the Arab resistance group Hamas that
they were ready to drop their sword and pick up the
olive branch. As soon as Sharon heard that, he
immediately ordered another in his series of
massacres, an attack which resulted in the deaths of
nine children, injury to hundreds of people, the death
of the Hamas military leader, and a determination by
Hamas to NOT make peace but begin war anew. Bear in
mind that this fellow, who is arguably a legitimate
target in a war against terror, was left unmolested
until such time as his organization started making
peace overtures. It was not until that time that a
swift and massive attack was ordered under such
conditions as to produce Sharon's signature activity -
a massacre. When Sharon heard that Hamas would again
start suicide bombings in Israel he allegedly clapped
his hands and proclaimed the operation an entire
success.

Well, it certainly was not a success for the ordinary
citizens of Israel, who do not have powerful bodyguard
and military units protecting them from the effects of
Sharon's policies. It was not a success for the dead
and injured in Palestine, who had nothing to do with
Hamas. If it was a success for anyone, it was a
success for Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, and Osama bin
Laden, whose goals the Commandant of Unit 101 seems to
consistently promote. After the Sharon massacre in
Jenin, an unidentified member of the Islamic Jihad was
quoted by TIME magazine as thanking Sharon for
radicalizing ordinary Palestinians who might otherwise
have chosen to live and let live with the Israelis.

There have been reports in the media of a behind the
scenes rift between the indicted prime minister and
Shimon Perez, who may be the only person in Israel
intelligent enough to see what is going on. The fact
that this massacre was timed the way it was could be a
coincidence, but that interpretation seems to be
weakened by many years in which Sharon has
consistently acted in a way which seems to this
observer to defeat the best interests of his
constituents, unless of course those constituents like
living in constant dread of suicide bombers with nail
bombs. If they like that sort of thing, then he is
serving them very well indeed.

The significance of 2020 is that the world will be a
much cleaner and healthier place. Sharon, who is
already past 70, will either be dead by then or too
infirm to carry out any more of his malicious
mischief. Let us hope he does not discover the Elixir
of Immortality.

Agree or disagree. This guy needs to be forced out
and someone else allowed to take the helm.
