Our Human Stuation

Dear Friends:
In our SECRET DOCTRINE study, and in the study that Larry Kolts
conducts concerning the unraveling of the allegories and myths
associated with the early pages of the OLD TESTAMENT (in Genesis) --
we have parallels.
Perhaps the following as I gather from Theosophy may be of use: In
particular, it has reference to The SECRET DOCTRINE, Vol. I p 181,
where 3 lines of Evolution are discussed.
I was writing to a friend on this following some observations he had
made:
Glad you liked what I posted. Needs careful study and thinking -- but
the gist of it is that:
ATMA-BUDDHI in each of us is in fact a SPIRITUAL BEING. And, this
interior SPIRITUAL BEING who speaks to us as "Intuition," and
sometimes as the "Voice of Conscience" is also a part of the
universal fraternity of SPIRIT.
Now why don't we know this? Why don't we act as spiritual brings
right now? Why is it so difficult to see our whole Universe is a
spiritual entity?
Why does every religion, without exception, speak of "God" as
omnipresent -- present everywhere? Is it because it is unpleasant to
think we cannot escape its "All-seeing Eye ?"
As far as I can see the "material" (and limited so far in experience
"monads of lesser experiences") need to purify themselves. One of the
great axioms of occultism is that both SPIRIT and MATTER (as
primordial substance) pervade and fill entirely the whole of the
UNIVERSE (which is limitless and boundless). We are a very small
portion of that. Quite unimportant except to ourselves. Yet we are
also as essential as Sirius is to his system.
So, I repeat: Why don't we know this? Why don't we act as spiritual
brings right now? Why is it so difficult to see our whole Universe is
a spiritual entity?
How is this to be done? Perhaps this is one of the ways:
1. Their (animal man's) instinctual capacity, now in this Manvantaras,
since the LIGHTING UP OF MANAS, has to widen our, deepen out, elevate
itself (as it perceives) to the SPIRITUAL LEVEL. From its personal
present stand-point, it has, first, to proceed to individualization.
It makes of itself a THINKER. Then, this thinker has to universalize
itself. It has as goal to become completely wise -- so it takes many
incarnations with this firmly in mind to be achieved. You may not
agree that this is a common goal for every human -- for every MIND. I
say that the difference and the inclinations of personal character
make the differences and delay this kind of perception. But if for
some moments we can detach our minds from those likes or antipathies,
we might see impersonally whether what I say is true and reasonable.
What is the highest and greatest good for each and all? Are we
brothers in SPIRIT as well as brothers in the "flesh?" Are we
brothers in heart and mind as well as in potential PERFECTION ?
This takes time since it (and we) begins at the opposite pole:
MATTER. We are very conscious of that, it being the only vehicle for
our consciousness that we know quite a lot about.
On the long path (some have called it the "pilgrimage of the
immortals") this immortal speck (that each of us is) of
CONSCIOUSNESS, inextricably bound to its MATTER component, has to
fight its way out of those limitations to an independence which allows
it to perceive both. It has to achieve an independent mid-way
position. This is what our MIND can do for us. But we have to tell
it to do so.
But that is easier said than done. We as consciousness are in that
mid-way position -- we are free MINDS. We see both good and evil.
The difference being very simply: compliance with Universal
impersonal LAW, or disobedience, and the debasement of one's
intelligence by trying to do the impossible: to break NATURE'S (
GOD'S) LAWS ( and escape from the consequences).
So if at one pole we start with MATTER, the other pole (extremely
remote), is SPIRITUAL PERFECTION IN ALL THINGS -- the actual condition
of GODHOOD.
Matter is able to progress in development only as far as instinct is
developed. Instinct by itself is the wisdom of the material kingdom
and reflects pure virtue. When afflicted with man's thoughts and
selfishness this turns to viciousness. One can see this reflected in
the natures and qualities of certain plants and animals. And then to
distinguish them we ascribe to them "human" qualities -- which may be
either virtues or vices. It is however a fact that the feelings and
thoughts of mankind have modified those beings and rendered them
abnormal. This is specially marked where animals or plants are forced
into close contact with humanity.
In The SECRET DOCTRINE, H P B and the Masters of Wisdom, explain how
our human situation developed: there, is a three-fold entity:
Spirit, Mind and Matter. It is now at the top of the limited
perfection of the Material Kingdoms. ( Instinct being the highest
individualization there in animal forms.)
The "Lighting up of Manas" is the 2nd event that arises naturally, as
INSTINCT is altered into SELF-CONSCIOUSNESS. ( We can see in every
household where there are little children, how this occurs, as the
parents and elders impart to the child -- not yet self-conscious --
their qualities and capacities, for good or bad.
Humanity as a "host" or a large group made of many individual
dissimilarities, yet in general, being at the same stage of
development, is in this child-stage and passing into adolescence
(emotionally) and into adulthood (intellectually).
Who serves as "teachers" and "elders?" The corps of those who have
already graduated from the Man-stage: We call them "Elder Brothers,"
"Adepts," "Masters of Wisdom," "Mahatmas," "Nirmanakayas,"
"Avatars," "Buddhas," etc. -- their MINDS have become pure and
SPIRITUAL.
We are trying to get our "lower mind" (personality) to become a HIGHER
MIND -- a BUDDHI-MANAS. We have on one hand the lower kingdoms with
their limitations, and on the other we have the ADEPTS -- whose powers
are said to be quite superior to ours. Within each of us is our own
resident "God-man" the HIGHER SELF -- ATMA -- a "ray of" or "speck" of
the Universal DIVINE SPIRIT. In that, we are one with the DIVINITY
that pervades all. But our present task is to become fully conscious
of that fact, and then, to bend our energies to living the life of a
"God-man" in daily affairs. In other words, to make virtues actual
and not just potential.
In what way? They resolutely think things out. They do not pander to
the likes and dislikes of the personality. And they try to get to see
the fallacy of our doing that, because the end result of such
pandering is a futile NOTHING. They say we have the ability to do
this,. They also say we have to develop the will to carry out in
practice what we intellectually agree is possible.
In effect they say that true immorality is our unbroken
consciousness -- a memory of the god and spiritual things we have
done, and looking forward, of the potential we can make possible with
our voluntary and free efforts.
We can spiritualize the ":Lower Mind."
There is no question of our stumbling and making errors as we try to
do this, but success is warranted to those who pick themselves up and
continue to try.
This is the purpose of Theosophy -- to present to those who think
answers that lead to seeing the whole spiritual layout and scheme as a
logical and reasonable WHOLE.
I think this is why the THEOSOPHICAL SOCIETY had as first objective to
form "a nucleus" of a UNIVERSAL BROTHERHOOD. It has to start
somewhere. A "society" is to that extent superior to any single
individual -- it welds the combined strength on may individuals into
one.
Tell me -- does this make sense to you ?
Best wishes,
Dallas
