Dallas, I don't understand your reply. All you write is clear and agreed.
But the point was that Doss sees a contradition between the requirements for
training in chelaship and the behaviour of both HPB and HSO in 1873.
My argument is that neither HPB and HSO were actually under training for
chelaship in 1873, don't?
Or will you tell me that the Masters send out a messenger who is not fit?
Frank

Dear Friend:

I would observe that H P B had been under training by the Masters for
far longer than Olcott. Probably since 1951, when she met the Master
in London.

She then travelled all over the world on Their behalf.

She records that she was ordered to go to New York in America in 1873
and when there, to make the acquaintance of Olcott. This is recorded
in the early letters and articles in A MODERN PANARION and also in Vol
1 of the BLAVATSKY: Collected Works (TPH). Also see the MAHATMA
LETTERS, pp. 203-4, 263.

In her article PRACTICAL OCCULTISM [LUCIFER, April 1888; U L T H P
B Articles II, p. 91 ] she indicates some of the Rules for chelas and
how they ought to be observed. This was issued before the public
announcement of the establishing of the E S T.

Best wishes,

Dallas

And not to forget, both HPB and Olcott were not in training for
chelaship at
that time you mention in connection with the requirements for
chelaship.
So applying the worldy as well as the pseudo theosophical standards
may not
be the best for esoteric situations.

And smoking was never forbidden in the ashrams, only in the pseudo
esoteric
E.S. of the Adyar lineage, as Boris de Zirkoff once described in a
letter
which is in my possession (I have the original, so far as I know there
are
no copies of it).

Just my thoughts when I was meditating about truth even within
theosophical
circles.

Reminds me of the choice the Adepts made when they chose HPB and
Olcott and
Judge.

HPB and Olcott were not vegetarians, both smoked and Olcott was a man
of
the world at the time he was chosen. So applying the worldly standards
may
not be the best in critical situations.
