The following is a quote from the introductory statements sent to new
members of theos-talk.
"The attempt will be to create a forum where students of Theosophy
can explore its rich and profound doctrines, a forum free of
hostility and personal attacks. The assumption is that Theosophy
is real, a definite body of doctrines or system of thought that is
worthy of study in its own right. There is no requirement that
someone "believe in it", just that this is a place where it can be
respectfully studied."
This list is not moderated, that is to say our posts appear
automatically, without having to be approved by anyone first. But it
does have an owner, Eldon, and he has responsibility for the list.
If, in his judgement, the guidelines for the list are not being
followed, he has the right to unsubscribe any member. This is a
common practice on other lists, and does not depend upon any
democratic process.
Being a list owner is a big responsibility, and if it weren't for
Eldon taking on this responsibility, there would be no list. I
suggest that we apply the theosophical principle of obedience, and
accept Eldon's judgement in this matter with gratitude to him, for
shouldering the responsibility of providing a venue where we can
pursue our studies mutually, according to the outlines for the list
we joined.
