Daniel:

I am not the one who has disputed that Olcott met real
people.

You may remember I was the one who said Olcott was the
one witness whose testimony could not be successfully
challenged in a court of law, and who is therefore the
best evidence that the two mahatmas were real men as
they were claimed to be. I am not implicitly
impugning the testimony of others, but if one wanted
to defend the theory that there were two real
mahatmas, Olcott's evidence would be the evidence that
would hold up best under scrutiny.

The research that shows Blavatsky met three dozen
people or four dozen people or however many there may
have been while in India is admirable, and certainly a
valuable contribution to Theosophical history. But
given that Blavatsky met hundreds of people in India,
the fact that the two mahatmas may not have been among
the three or four dozen studied does not constitute a
prima facie case that the mahatmas did not exist.
Unfortunately, proving that they did not exist is
probably impossible, especially in light of good
evidence that they did exist.

The statement that has been made that their identities
were deliberately obfuscated is certainly true. The
facts cited about them cannot therefore in every case
be trusted, since there was some concern to keep the
profane world from tracking them down.
