Muehlegger on Ian Stevenson's Studies of Reincarnation

Mar 13, 2002 06:31 AM
by Daniel Caldwell

Brigitte Muehlegger writes:

"One can refer to Ian Stevenson's studies and base
one's claims on a combination between faith and
pseudo-science."

Perceptive readers should be hesitant to take
Muehlegger's comment at face value. It is quite
misleading.

Those who would like to actually read one of Dr.
Stevenson's books on reincarnation and judge the
quality of his research might start with:

WHERE REINCARNATION AND BIOLOGY INTERSECT
by Ian Stevenson.

A good scholarly overview of Stevenson's studies as
well as a good overview of reincarnation research can
be found in:

DEATH AND PERSONAL SURVIVAL: The Evidence for Life
After Death by Robert Almeder. See especially Chapter
1, "Reincarnation," pp. 1-95.

"...Contrast alone can enable us to appreciate things at
their right value; and unless a judge compares notes and
hears both sides he can hardly come to a correct decision."
