Short Responses to Tillet

Brigitte quoting Tillet:
<<<Heresy is, essentially, a challenge to the Received Truth from within (and inevitably leads to the Heretics being forced out.... and often then establishing a new Received Truth position).>>>

This lies at the very heart of human nature - our worldview. We all want a nice comfortable worldview, and especially one that we don't have to expend much effort for. Religious devotees go to church and try to be nice to each other, and believe that as a reward they will live eternally in heaven next to God, or Jesus, or whomever. Theosophical fundamentalists are no different. They think that by making good karma now they will be rewarded in future lives. All of this has to do with our worldview and our grasping onto a self, and doing our best to secure safety and security for that self. All different paths to same end - a spiritual selfishness.

The truth, if it exists and if we can find it, can not possibly depend on any historical event(s) or written documents. If we accept the assumption that truth exists, and the assumption that we can find it, then we must also accept the logical conclusion that various perceptive individuals over the centuries have likely caught glimpses of it. This is how I interpret Blavatsky's teaching of an ancient theosophical (small t intended) wisdom.

<<<<All disciples of Received Truth can provide arguments and evidence to support their claims, but all ultimately begin with a Faith Position.">>>

Quite right. Faith is the cornerstone of our living experiences and our worldview is glued/held together by it.
