birds

Look for birds on your farm, they say, because they
are a good sign of the condition of the land. But if
I start consciously searching for them now then I will
obviously see more than when I was not looking for
them. So how would I know if my farm is getting better
or if I am just getting better at finding birds.
Before I saw the obvious ones, such as magpies and
crows, but now I can see butcherbirds, honeyeaters,
kingfishers and much more.

If I am an ameoba I am only conscious of a limited
amount of the world. But as a human I am conscious of
much more. I am conscious of the "fact" that I am real
and I exist. I am conscious of the "fact" that I am
sitting here typing on this computer. But aren't I
just searching more of the world? Is not there much
more that I am not conscious of? Am I just seeing
magpies and crows and not the butcherbirds,
honeyeaters and kingfishers?
