Re: Where is Wisdom Kept ?
Dear M G

the full INSTRUCTIONAL SCIENCE (as a physical written record) is kept in
the secret libraries of the ANCIENT AND SINGLE COLLEGE of ADEPTS.

Actually it is also in the AKASA -- the permanent record of imperishable
history that is written moment by money by all living beings as they think,
desire, move, and live, influencing one another. Nature, that continually
supports us, is evidence for its existence. The past 400 years or so, of
increasingly non-church stifled scientific discovery, shows this clearly.
The Akasa is a very real permanent record and is also called the spiritual,
or 7th aspect of the Astral Light (or Aether). To those that have no
concept of the SPIRITUAL nature existent in all things and forms, this will
mean nothing. We are the “lipika” the immortal scribes, who are continually
recoding the progress of our lives on that Akasa, -- and that of the
worlds -- as time marches on.

H P B refers to this both in The SECRET DOCTRINE and in ISIS UNVEILED in the
Preface and Introduction to those works. They only provide a bare sketch of
the fundamental principles and our development (as spiritual and immortal
Monads) through cosmogenesis and anthropogenesis -- as the actual history
of the Earth and its inhabitants is spoken of and detailed. We are expected
to check it out if and when we get interested. Are we ?

Theosophy contains a sketch of these teachings.

One fundamental to become aware of is: that NATURE ALREADY CONTAINS AND
USES ALL THAT WISDOM. It is secret to us until such time as we develop the
humility to perceive its slightest workings in and around us all.

Our Science in its many departments are merely uncovering aspects of that
wisdom which is already resident in all living things. From the sub-atom to
the utmost GALAXY, a single LAW permeates and pervades all time and space.
Einstein’s search for a unified Theory and a single expression is
intuitively correct -- and he kept a battered and much used copy of The
SECRET DOCTRINE on his desk -- it is now in the archives of the THEOSOPHICAL
SOCIETY in Adyar.

It (this Wisdom) is briefly described as BROTHERHOOD -- the brotherhood of
all beings which emanate and are derived form a single ONE ANTECEDENT
SOURCE -- the indescribable ABSOLUTE. And that is ALL IN ALL.

In our world of manifestation and of evolution, Theosophy says we should
consider that SPIRIT and PRIMORDIAL MATTER ( a Monadic duad) form the
highest and most spiritual aspect of every individual being, and of all
manifested things. This is the basic Spiritual Being at the core of our
existence. It is one with every other such being whether the outward form
is that of an atom, a molecule, a cell, a stone, a plant, an animal, a
human, a world or a galaxy -- there is a single identity there. It is
essentially cooperative and lives and works with all the rest of its many
brothers.

She also says that they (the records of the Wisdom of the Ages) are secret,
because abuse of that knowledge placed in ignoble hands, could disrupt
evolution. Nature is dedicated to the preservation of ALL LIVING THINGS.
The forms change, but the core is always an immortal IDENTITY -- the MONAD.
Karma is the manner in which Nature provides for distortion and disruption
to be mitigated, and simultaneously, the entity involved is given an
educative experience that tends to redirect it (the Monad) to the spiritual
path and way of life.

She indicates that the key to securing (this wisdom) is a complete
harmlessness of motive. In other words only those who are wise enough and
have their lower natures in ABSOLUTE CONTROL can access these final records.
No selfishness, arrogance, or personal wielding of powers can be permitted.
Those if present in our nature and character automatically erect barriers to
our securing information of such tremendous power.

And that is why, sometimes, Theosophy seems mystical and mysterious --
because, in our common average educational systems, as generally given, such
concepts have not received attention, nor have due explanations as to the
nature of Man and Nature, and the power of thinking ever been well defined.

Most religions try to make humans dependent on priests, faith and authority.

Theosophy seeks to make man free. To give him a glimpse of true SPIRITUAL
INDEPENDENCE which, in practice, is utter interdependence -- as brother is
to brother -- each bearing their share of the common responsibilities of
co-existence. In Theosophy the cooperative aspect of our lives is
emphasized. The mind is encouraged to learn to observe, deduce think, and
then act in harmony with others.

No one who does not have such qualifications can have access to true and
ultimate WISDOM.

Do they (the records and the libraries) really exist? I suggest a careful
STUDY of The SECRET DOCTRINE and ISIS UNVEILED will give the reader a survey
of their existence, and also of the methods that have been used for
millennia in educating ones’ self and preparing ones’ self for their
acquisition. One can emerge from such a survey with the assurance that we
are only at the very frontiers of knowledge and Nature holds vast and
important secrets available only to those who qualify. Yes, this is a
challenge. But, I think it is one that we ought to take advantage of. We
now have the opening keys to it.

There is implicit in Theosophy a demand for a total practice of virtue -- an
assumption by the individual who so dedicates himself to the absolute
support of LIFE everywhere -- so that no SELFISHNESS of any kind is left
resident in any part of his being.

Students who approach Theosophy are asked to read and study the KEY TO
THEOSOPHY (HPB) and the OCEAN OF THEOSOPHY (Judge). This is for a purpose,
as they have to realise how very different is the Theosophical approach to
life, education, and the objectives of “success.” Further, they have to
realize that the IMMORTALITY of the Soul/Spirit.

I do hope this proves to be of some help. Come back with more questions if
you wish.

Best regards,

Dallas

Re: CAN THEOSOPHY TEACH US TO BECOME GOOD OR SPIRITUAL ?

Dear Friends:

Without disagreeing with what Peter wrote, let me add that the
practical side of Theosophy is always in the hands of the
individual. As to my knowledge, there is no available or secure
compilation of methods whereby one can secure "enlightenment" by
following rites, rituals, formulas, ceremonies, etc...

Blavatsky was taught a FULL system by two of the Masters who were part of
this body of initiated seers referred to below.

William Q. Judge, the very close student and colleague of Blavatsky,
summarized the source below:

(Wm. Q. Judge, An Epitome Of Theosophy)
"Theosophy, the Wisdom-Religion, has existed from immemorial time. It offers
us a theory of nature and of life which is founded upon knowledge acquired
by the Sages of the past, more especially those of the East; and its higher
students claim that this knowledge is not imagine or inferred, but that it
is a knowledge of facts seen and known by those who are willing to comply
with the conditions requisite for seeing and knowing.

Theosophy, meaning knowledge of or about God (not in the sense of a personal
anthropomorphic God, but in that of divine "godly" wisdom), and the term
"God" being universally accepted as including the whole of both the known
and the unknown, it follows that "Theosophy" must imply wisdom respecting
the absolute; and, since the absolute is without beginning and eternal, this
wisdom must have existed always. Hence Theosophy is sometimes called the
Wisdom-Religion, because from immemorial time it has had knowledge of all
the laws governing the spiritual, the moral, and the material.

Theosophy is not a new invention but the essential underlying truth of all
philosophies; it is a body of doctrine in philosophy, science, and ethics,
principally derived from the Eastern archaic sacred Theories, which were
worked out by a brotherhood of devotees and initiates who used every method
of scientific investigation known to us, as well as their own highly
developed practices of observation, experiment, concentration, and
meditation to reach the truth. They traced all phenomena by every possible
means from their significance to their source, and by comparison of their
independent searches and observations recorded their conclusions and
accepted such results only as could stand the test of applicability and
verification from every point and in every conceivable direction. This
slowly accumulating body of facts furnished the basis for these great
universal doctrines, and the psychic development of these devotees and
students gave them great power over nature and insight! into the mystic side
of the universe and man. These doctrines were handed down from generation to
generation since time immemorial, and were guarded by the most sacredly
pledged disciples, who had devoted their whole lives to the development of
their psychic and spiritual faculties. The reason why these doctrines had
been so strenuously guarded from the profane and unripe is because the
possession of their knowledge gives great power for use or abuse. It
embraces the science of the finer forces in nature, their relation and
correspondences in themselves, and the knowledge of their uses an
application for the benefit or destruction of humanity.

Although this transcendental knowledge was accessible at all times to those
who were ripe and who felt the craving for it strong enough to make the
unremitting sacrifice, it would be acquired only by those whose supreme
intensity of excitement and enthusiasm made it possible in those times to
incur the self-denial and renunciation of worldly concerns necessary to
initiation. Nor is it any different now, and never will be, except that
portions of the doctrine are given out from time to time, such as may be
safely trusted to an advancing age, because to penetrate into the mystery of
nature requires a state of the greatest purity and perfection, and this
final perfection is not a gift to be expected from without, but is to be
worked for by those who desire."

My question is: where is the "Instructional Science" of the teaching being
kept?

M. G.
