The "doctor" is certainly right that he has a
copyright on any original work of authorship fixed in
any tangible medium of expression. He is furthermore
right when he says his work should not be published
without his permission. Of course if it is not
published it will do him no good as an academic, but
he still retains both the moral and legal right to
decide if and when. I would be intrigued to know what
are the additional intellectual property rights he
claims over and above copyright, and why there are
apparent grammatical errors in his e-mail.
