Dear Monica:
Theosophy is a feast of information and one really ought to
spend at least a week with the KEY TO THEOSOPHY (HPB) and
assimilate some of the basic concepts. Make notes. Get an INDEX
to the KEY TO THEOSOPHY (HPB) it will help to cross reference.
What theosophy does is to fill the gaps between Science and its
discoveries and the way in which NATURE (the Intelligent and
supportive UNIVERSE has already set up things. How long did it
take to do this -- well, eternity in any language is a very long
time. [If you wish to get an idea of the possible. years
involved, use The SECRET DOCTRINE, Vol 2, pp 68-70 for the
lengths and periods of cycles.
Are you familiar with Mr. W. Q. Judge's OCEAN OF THEOSOPHY ? To
is a careful summary of the matter discussed at length in The
SECRET DOCTRINE. I believe it is "on-line" through BLAVATSKY NET
at http://www.blavatsky.net.
The last 2 chapters (16 and 17) cover the question of the
psychic and the astral realm and the powers and pit-falls of
those who might contact or deal with it. It is a good idea to be
familiar with them.
Best wishes,
Dallas

Dallas,
This is quite wonderful! Thanks for the distinction between a
medium
and a Mediator.
Why take the opinion of someone else, indeed. "All original
thinkers
and investigators of the hidden side of nature were and are
properly,
Theosophists ... Be what he may, once that a student abandons the
old
and trodden highway of routine, and enters upon the solitary path
of
independent Thought - Godward - he is a Theosophist; an original
thinker, a seeker after the eternal truth with 'an inspiration of
his
own' to solve the universal problems." - Helena Blavatsky
(1831-91).
I have often viewed mediums as people who are able to contact the
levels of the astral plane. The source of their information is
not
from higher planes of consciousness but doubtful entities and
astral
forces.
DTB AGREED, so be wary of them.
Mediators are people who are able to contact the mental and
buddhic
planes. They think scientifically and their methods are based on
scientific, clear thinking because their minds function beyond
the
fog of illusions, glamors, prejudices and superstitions.
DTB The ADEPT is a Mediator. He has all the powers of nature
under control and can go as required, and only IF REQUIRED, into
any section or plane of the entire Universe.
The Masters have made themselves active assistants to and within
Nature. They become impersonal forces who only do good. They
know and obey the laws of harmony and brotherhood. They practice
all the virtues. They seek no recompense ever.
Best wishes,
DTB
