Re: Incarnating in animals, etc. or Voyaging to other Planets,
etc...

Dear Mic:

I would call on Karma and justice and fairness. If we have no
already created affinities and experienced life and
responsibilities in a certain area why should the IMMORTAL
SPIRIT/SOUL "travel" on some kind of science-fiction adventure?
If we analyse these concepts we will soon see that they are
DESIRES and are not based on REASON.

Theosophy describes things as they are and not as our desires may
wish them to be. So it is not popular among those who think life
is merely a selfish adventure they can direct and not reap
consequences from.

Let us employ together the reasons Theosophy advances: Fist, we
are IMMORTALS. Not our "desires" but our MINDS, and the
SPIRITUAL SOUL (ATMA-BUDDHI).

Second: Our Desire nature arises as the animal being evolves and
finally it meets in every human the descending "God" -- the MIND
linked to THE SPIRIT/SOUL (ATMA-BUDDHI). This latter is the
"eternal Pilgrim."

The intelligence we call "desire, passion, yens, wants, fancies,
etc... is very selfish an extremely personal. We live and deal
with it daily -- all of us. But essentially the Human State is
that of a Mind [ MANAS] that has incarnated in a body made up of
the lower forces and powers of Nature, the highest of which is
called animal instinct. In every human (to repeat) the ascending
animal intelligence meets the descending God-intelligence. As a
result there is great confusion -- one wonders which is
uppermost: REASON or FANCY ?

The "form" of Man is in itself of the utmost complexity and
intelligence, but it is limited. It cannot think. Therefore it
is incapable of for seeing potential results in the future. It
has however the power to link itself to the lower aspects of the
"God-mind" and doing so it debases them into dreams, visions and
fancies of what it might achieve through selfish power and pride
and ambition. Here is where atrocities and horrors are hatched.

But the Universe is ruled by a single unbreakable and unbending
LAW: KARMA : "As you sow, so shall you reap." This inflexibly
applies to the ETHICAL and the MORAL consequences of all our
choices.

The Human stage then represents the duality of

1. The growth of the desire being into a thinking and unselfish
immortal.

2. The assistance that the pure SPIRITUAL SOUL can extend
through the Mind-link to that animal consciousness, and help to
raise it to a perception of the workings of the Universe around
it.

In other words seek to get it (our embodied consciousness, which
is a closely linked entity that is half immortal and half mortal)
to perceive that brotherhood is the only way to voluntarily scale
the heights of perfection and immortalize itself.

To the selfish self, in its waking consciousness (you and me and
all the rest of humanity) this becomes a complex subject, mainly
because the idea has rarely been presented to us in such logical
and clear terms. Our several religions, emanating from the
ethical injunctions of great reformers, teachers, and prophets,
show the practical way of individual life that we can control if
we desire to do that. But they do not provide always the REASON
for doing that. Impersonally as in a text-book Theosophy shows
how our choices are linked to our future and declares that we
cannot escape from the consequences of those decisions.

Let us apply this information t our present situation:

Our present Karma draws us to our Earth and its environment as a
place where we have lived before and created links. These links
you will find are expressed in theosophy as the impressions we
gave (and presently give) to all the life-atoms (elementals,
skandhas, etc... various names of astral and psychic entities).
They FORM OUR PRESENT BODIES: (physical, astral, psychic, vital
and emotional self) they are not able to travel in imagination as
our mind when influenced by desire or fancy do.

They are the anchors which hold us very firmly in the area where
they are the masters and where they expect us to improve them.
So our flight are in reality curtailed and our duties relate to
SERVING THEM, assisting them to improve and thus making for them
and our Minds a fit and flexible, useful instrument for life in a
cooperative as vast and as complex as our Universe is in reality.
As an example we (and biological and medical Science know so
little about our bodies) that we wonder how NATURE can possibly
have constructed them. Then extending further our vision we may
ask how is it possible to construct an atom, or a molecule, or
build up a crystal or a tree, or an animal form?

The economy of Nature shows that when we choose anything (either
feel, think or act) we influence the "little-lives." These
become our points of attraction. They clothe us, so to say with
the material and the vestures which we use and will use in the
future.

H.P.Blavatsky wrote an article titled: TRANSMIGRATION OF THE
LIFE-ATOMS [ THEOSOPHIST Mag. July, Aug., 1893; Reprinted in U
L T H P B Articles II p 249 ] If you have this book then read
on pp 253 to 258 the rationale of the Karma being united to the
elementals and the skandhas that form our personalities. It is
important to grasp exactly what the conscious being in us is. It
is (to use technical terms) BUDDHI-MANAS and it is NOT
Kama-Manas. But this article is an important one and well worth
a read.

In the KEY TO THEOSOPHY (HPB) , H.P.Blavatsky also goes through
this explanation, and we need only study what she says about
reincarnation to secure an accurate grasp of what Theosophy
teaches.

I hope this proves to be of some help.

Best wishes,

Dallas

Dear Dallas,

Does it necessarily hold that one should return to
Earth as a Homo sapien? Why cannot one continue its
evolution on some other planet in a physical being
that is, perhaps, more advanced than humans? Isn't
naive to think that all evolution takes place here on
Earth in physical bodies that we are aware of?

Regards,
Mic
