Dear mic, you may want to try theos-l@list.vnet.net where we try to avoid politics as much as possible and we do discuss Theosophy as much as possible. I am an "old timer" myself, but totally agree with your sentiments. However, in all fairness, history and politics are important too. So yes, just ignore those threads you don't like and talk about anything you want.
