The SECRET DOCTRINE is a wonderful book, but to grasp it and its
underlying philosophy its author H.P.Blavatsky recommended that
her students familiarize themselves, (as a preliminary) with her
KEY TO THEOSOPHY.

In about 300 pages H.P.Blavatsky covers (in the KEY TO
THEOSOPHY) the main principles of philosophy, and science and
ethics that a student needs to perceive the operation of nature's
LAWS all around and through themselves. This makes The SECRET
DOCTRINE much more easy to grasp as it covers the operation of
the metaphysical aspects and the secret workings of Nature in
great detail. It also gives evidence of the universal
ESOTERICISM that has always pervaded mankind's progress and
evolution.

Esotericism is quite simply the study of, and the making use of.
the LAWS of NATURE inherent in all things. [ H P B has also
written a number of valuable articles on this subject, but to
grasp them well a preliminary study of the KEY TO THEOSOPHY is
most advisable. [Its like trying to learn French without a good
knowledge of French vocabulary and grammar. We hear French words
used all the time, but we don't yet connect them with a current
use of the language]

As a principle it visualizes ONE SPIRIT that thrills through all
SPACE without limits as to area, time, or motion. EVERYTHING is
part of IT -- the ONE. Spirit underlies all MATTER and all
FORMS. It guides the relations between forms, so that the
integrity of even the least of those is preserved; hence it is
held that the ultimate FORM (The Monad) is IMMORTAL. It consists
of SPIRIT-MATTER-MIND inextricably intertwined and bound
together.

As an Eternal Pilgrim it (the Eternal MONAD, that we are at our
core) progresses with all others on a "path" which leads to
SUPREME PERFECTION -- a WISDOM OF ALL LAWS AND THEIR PERFORMANCE.
Great men of the past like Buddha, Krishna, Lao-Tse, Pythagoras,
Jesus, Shankaracharya, Plato, etc... will be found to have taught
to same system in their own time and to their own audience -- so
although the words and languages differ the IDEAS are the same.
Logical sequence.

The Universe contains all and is run entirely by the ONE LAW --
the law of compensation and harmony. NATURE CONTAINS ALL THINGS.
Nature has ONE LAW and that is unchanging and immutable. It is
educative and not punitive. It beings readjustment and
encourages the development of intelligence and consciousness in
all its units.

Evolution of the many kinds and hosts of Monads is a basic fact.
All being whether large or small, near or far, of one dimension
or another are deemed to be brothers and necessary parts of this
UNITY.

The whole of "esotericism": is contained in one word:
BROTHERHOOD. If we treat all events and all beings as adventures
in brotherhood, we will be able to handle every event that may
come to us, expected, or unexpected.
