RE: the psychic - re to Dallas

B now you must realize that I have done a lot of "reading and
studying." Also I have made mental constructs based on the
information received, without adventuring my consciousness into
an area which I am not sure of the parameters.

I see no sense in entering a flaming furnace without adequate
cooling apparatus and the necessary isolation needed to retain
the use of this physical body for a whole longer. I can send in
my eyesight, my hearing, test apparatus, etc... and discover
what is there -- to a degree. But I am positively not going to
risk my mental balance or future emotional well-being by rash
sorties into a realm I still have no idea how good or bad it may
be.

The information we have I so sketchy and I have no itch to be an
experiment for someone else.

I don't doubt that in some future incarnation when I shall have
developed a certainty that leads to the invulnerability of wisdom
an power it will be necessary to investigate at first hand those
psychic and astral realms. Even now when I got to sleep I have
not got control over my dreams or the other work my MIND may be
engaged in ( TRANSACTIONS 66 -78). Bulwer-Lytton's ZANONI and
his other book A STRANGE STORY; the account of Stainton Moses'
trials and tribulations (as narrated in MAHATMA LETTERS ) ought
to give everyone some very cautionary pre-views.

Best wishes,

Dallas

<<<Jerry:
I would say that whatever we do, it is better to go into new
areas with all the valid information we can secure in advance.
By nature I am cautious, and seek to anticipate potential events
and situations.>>>

JERRY: Dallas, I can't disagree with this. But it is important to
realize
(and this is part of being prepared) that the going
outward/upward into the
comsic planes of manifestation is no different than going within
yourelf
into the depths of the unconscious. It is (or should be) an
exploration of
oneself and of one's world for the purpose of obtaining
information/knowledge with which to use to help others.

<<<This is one of the reasons that THEOSOPHY has so appealed to
me - frank,
open clear, reasonable, intuitive - my guess is that
different people need to develop their own approaches. No one
can provide a life-jacket to fit all situations. In any case we
all teach ourselves and we enjoy or suffer because of that
alone.>>

JERRY: We have to approach Theosophy in two ways: (1) Reading and
studying
the literature to prepare a mental framework or worldview, and
(2) direct
experience and putting the lessons learned into daily life. Most
Theosophists will agree with the first (the head doctrine), but
it is the
second (heart doctrine) that is difficult.

<<<The psychic world is no exception. The warnings were issued
(I believe)
for a good reason - to be HELPFUL in advance.
Dal>>

JERRY: HPB warns us about being unprepared, not about exploration
(direct
experience) itself. My view is that preparation is essential with
or without
exploration (because if we don't go consciously to it, sooner or
later it
will come unconsciously to us).
