Dear
Ananda: I hope
these brief notes will. Help The
primary concept is that evolution is not limited to our Earth but rather, that
every being is a SPIRITUAL/Soul -- an immortal and eternal Jivatma -- and the purpose
of the Universe (as Patanjali puts it) is to provide a field of evolution for
each and every Soul. In the
BHAGAVAD GITA you will find Sri Krishna saying “ I am the EGO seated in the
hearts of all beings. I am the
beginning the middle and the end of all existing things.” Speaking
to Arjuna as Maha-Vishnu, Sri Krishna makes no distinctions -- as the pervading
LIFE-FORCE it has no beginning nor any ending, but it always is. It propels all beings (by means of the
inherent life force in each of them) to evolve their own Individual
self-consciousness. Once that this
consciousness is attained, then every human, like Arjuna begins the questions
that lead to an understanding of UNIVERSAL SELF-CONSCIOUSNESS -- which is a
WISDOM of the WHOLE. Therefore
UNIVERSAL BROTHERHOOD is based on this proposition: “We are all SPIRITUAL beings; and we share in the same ONE
ROOT of all existence.” But SPIRIT
is not alone when manifestation starts and evolution starts again. Each ATMA (or “Ray” of the One Universal
SPIRIT is intimately associated with a portion of primordial Matter (named in
theosophy BUDDHI -- because it is the accumulated record and fact of all
experience. In Theosophy this is called the Eternal
Pilgrim or the MONAD (ATMA-BUDDHI). The Mind is
named MANAS, and stands ever mid-way between the Inner spiritual SELF (ATMA)
and the personality of which our bodies are the lowest and most material
aspect. Manas can be dual. It can be unselfish and altruistic,
Noble, Virtuous, Generous and Universal.
It can also be, when allied with Kama (Desire) called the Lower
Manas. It is then distinguished
from its wise and noble counterpart as Selfish, personal, and tends towards
isolation and vice. In the GITA,
Duryodhana typifies such a Lower Mind wrapped in evil desires. The value of the GITA, as I see it, is
that it displays all the types and qualities that are human before us, and Sri
Krishna gives their origins and qualities, as well as a method to be used by us
to overcome and transmute them into virtues. Looking at
the MONADS which pervade all space, one is struck by the many planes, tiersand
layers of intelligence and consciousness represented as a group or an army,
there. The whole
process of Evolution could be summed up by saying: 1. The MONADS emerge under Karma from the
undifferentiated MONADIC ESSENCE and assume an individuality -- this is not
something new, but is a continuation of their eternal evolution. 2. The same Monad, entering the forms and
intelligence provided by minerals, plants, and animals they acquire the power
of progressive levels of instinct, which is resident in those forms and beings. 3. They
then become men-minds (Manasa) and
here their evolution becomes self-guided We are at
this stage. And our program is to
make by our own efforts our personal nature to purify itself spiritually and
thus become Universally Wise -- or UNIVERSALLY SELF-CONSCIOUS. 4. This process is a common one and has
been going on for many ages. Man
becomes a SAGE, by his own efforts and by adopting the morality implied in the
Law of Karma and Reincarnation. 5. These superior Men are known by various
names such as Adepts, Masters of Wisdom, Rishis, Bodhisattvas, Buddhas, Planetary
Spirits, Dhyanis, Chohans, Maha-Chohans, Builders of the Manvantaric Dawn,
Cosmocratores, etc… The names and
words do not give us an idea and are simply an indication of the progressive
levels to which a purified Soul may rise. 6. The process of self-purification is one
by which we transmute selfishness into UNIVERSALITY. Ignorance, into UNIVERSAL WISDOM. The process may take many lives, but always begins in some
one life when we realize the honesty, sincerity and charitable aspects of
“Mother” Nature. 7. We have to realize that the MONADis
always potential in us, and can be appealed to for help if we desire to alter
our personality that is selfish and in isolation into a being of mercy,
generosity. Wisdom and universality.
It is said
that the only title which the Mahatmas permit for themselves is “Servants of
Humanity.” If there
are more questions then please ask. Best
wishes, Dallas ============================== -----Original Message----- Dear Sirs, |
