Dear Friend:

IMPORTANT CORRECTION -- Sorry for the error --

Let me first apologize for an error.

I meant NIRVANEE and not "Nirmanakaya" The latter are supremely
unselfish. The NIRVANEE is deemed to be very selfish because he
has only worked to purify his psychic (Kamic) nature and in doing
so he aims to escape from the suffering and turmoil of our
earthly existence, not realizing that the WHOLE OF MAN (all 6
principles) are to be PERFECTED.

ATMA is actually universal.

Yes the phrase "Ray of the ATMA" was used so as to convey the
presence in MAN of the 7 Principles.

Atma being universal is not strictly a "principle" as the whole
Universe bathes in it, yet "knows it not." In fact Mr. Judge
said in an article in the PATH that really we have ONE PRINCIPLE
(ATMA) and its 6 "principles." Or "vehicles." H.P.B. and Judge
in, respectively THE KEY TO THEOSOPHY (and THE SECRET DOCTRINE)
and THE OCEAN OF THEOSOPHY give tables that include ATMA among
the "7 Principles." So it needs a bit of explaining.

One might add that the whole Universe, (all nature, whether
visible or invisible) is made up of MONADS ( Atma-Buddhi) . Both
are ubiquitous, and "Matter" is only the polar opposite of
"SPIRIT." Both emanate in periods of manifestation from the
inscrutable ABSOLUTENESS.

Again, thanks fro catching this and enabling the correction to be
made.

Best wishes,

Dallas

Dear Dal:

Thank you for your long explanation. There were two things you
mentioned
that struck me and wonder if you can further elaborate on them:

1. "Also ALWAYS REMEMBER that the "Ray" of the ATMA in each human
(or
>HIGHER SELF) is the IDEAL and Universal SPIRIT. It incarnates
>deliberately in the Lower Man to serve it (the lower Man -- or a
>MONAD of lesser experience that has reached the stage of
>self-consciousness -- as a tutor, and thus to help it onward
and
>upward progress."

What is the Ray? What is the relationship between the Ray and
Atma?
Do they come from the same source?

================================

DTB	ATMA is UNIVERSAL; hence one might speak of that portion
associated with Buddhi and Manas in the MONAD / MAN as being "a
"ray" or a portion of that Universal. In many it is sometimes
designated as the HIGHER SELF.

==========================================

2. "None are left out of our purview, and unlike the isolated
Nirmanakaya
wrapped in his selfish bliss, we continue to pursue the ever
illusive "Star"
of >our SOUL." ( S.D. I 570-575 )

======================

DTB	This should be NIRVANEE -- not "Nirmanakaya."

================================

Do most theosophists view the Nirmanakaya as selfish beings?

Best Regards,

barbara
