There are a number of reasons for that. Expense of air conditioning,
many people taking vacations, and, for larger lodges, giving the
volunteer staff a break all figure into the equation. In Pumpkin Hollow
Farm in New York, the reverse is true; the summer is the busy time, and
the winter is when they take a break.
