I have a book before me what is said to be one the leading glossaries of
Freemasonry in the world. It is:
Eugen Lenhoff & Oskar Posner: Internationales Freimauerlexikon
[International FM Glossary], Wien [Vienna] 1932.
I don't know if there is also an English translation.
Look under "Temple", col. 1562. The Lodge room in the Freemason temple is
here literal described as "laengliches Viereck",
that is in English exactly: "Oblong square".
Since "H.P.B." (not H.P.B., not H.P. Blavatsky) uses the term oblong square
on p. 7 of her book and in connection with the altars of the temples it
occurs to me that she has had something in mind when she used this Masonic
term. It seems the Intern. FM Glossary supports the statements of Daniel and
Tony.
ULT member claim that it was Judge himself who stroke out the word oblong.
My question is: Is that sure that Judge did it? Are there any proofs besides
oral history? Does his copy of the VOS still exist where his notes are said
to have been? Who has access to it today? Can someone may a scan of the page
under question to allow investigation of the origin of the handwritten note?
And - besides WQJ was a high adept as HPB too - could it be possible that he
too has had times when he was tired, overwhelmed and confused?
Or is that possibility beyond anyone's idea?
