Dear Bart:
I read your recent positing, and I read with chagrin that you see
fit to reproduce (without and proof or additional supporting
facts, the old calumny that HPB is supposed (by some writers and
detractors) to have practiced fraud. What escapes my
comprehension is why should she have done this ? Further, who
are they to determine that they have doubts and suspicions of
here. What are they based on? Do you have them to share with me
?
I would say from having read and researched most of the early
literature (books, articles, magazines, letters, etc...) of the
Theos. Movement of this era, that HPB had no reason to do
anything that was not honest and straightforward.
Read her letters. Read what the Masters of Wisdom say about her.
Read what Mr. Judge, Constance Wachmeister, Mead, the Keightleys,
Jasper Neimand, etc... have to say about her. All these are on
file. All the calumnies so far written concerning her are on
file and they can be seen and compared. Daniel Caldwell's
archives at the BLAVATSKY FOUNDATION has them all.
If you are going to give voice to statements that are detrimental
to her integrity, then you ought to bring some kind of proof,
otherwise you sully your own fair name and writing by copying her
enemies, and giving continued life to the allegations that you
make-and for which you have no proof. (Or, do you ?) In fact
such calumnies have already been amply answered
( that is, if you read Sylvia Cranston's book H.P.B. ).
First: the accounts of all of HPB' phenomena have been only
partially recorded. None of her closest students or pupils
recorded that she practiced any provable fraud, or was deceptive.
She was always honest and clear cut with what it was permissible
to expose to other's view. For what was to be kept secret, she
said so unequivocally. If you read the MAHATMA LETTERS, you will
find that They also state that some information cannot be
broadcast.
Such is the nature of true occultism and esotericism it would
appear. That aside, there is plenty more for all of us to study
and to try to piece together and reconcile.
All accounts show that she was an Adept using the body of our
race and that she did only that which was necessary for specific
people. It is significant that it was only AFTER HER DEATH that
Olcott, Besant and Sinnett thought it fit to declare that HPB had
been fraudulent - in their esteem - but they never were able to
advance any convincing proofs. And, as far as I can determine
they did not issue any evidence of their study of her Theosophy
that is consistent with the Theosophy of the Mahatmas which she
and They (by their own certificates) state was written by Them
jointly.
She did not invite judgment. She did nothing for money. She
gave away far more than she ever earned and labored ceaselessly
for humanity.
She launched a Movement that served to revive interest in the
Perennial Philosophy of all the Great Prophets, Seers, and Great
Teachers of the World. Without HPB there would not have been a T
S nor a theosophical Movement. Nor would you and I and others
have benefited from her work.
Second. If you are really familiar with ISIS UNVEILED and the
SECRET DOCTRINE, then you will have some idea (proof to me) that
the work she did can be duplicated by no one since she appeared
to record and write those books and articles.
When you and I can write as she did, then we may take issue with
her directly and ask if she would explain why and how she did
what she did.
Third: In my opinion each of us who are interested in Theosophy,
and call ourselves in one way or another her "students" - we all
owe her a debt of respect and gratitude that it will take
lifetimes of dedication to repay - if ever. The philosophy is
one that is coherent, self-proving, and answers all questions
without prevarication or deception. It is not speculative, but
carries the mark of the study and work of generations of students
and Adepts.
Now, please let me know if you have any proofs at all for what
you write.
