The Return of Mermaids, Centaurs, Minotaurs and Werewolves?

In the Globe and Mail on November 13th, I read a disturbing (to me) account by Nicholas Wade, the New York Times, of a successful experiment in "a new technique to fuse human and cow cells in an attempt to grow organs for transplant in a laboratory dish." The research is taking place at a small biotech company - Advanced Cell Technology - based in Worchester, Mass. Perhaps others of you have already seen this article or a similar one, and have even already addressed this issue on theos-talk. If so, being of a serious matter it bears repeating. A portion of the article states:

"The technique involves creating an embryo of uncertain moral status, and one that crosses the barrier between humans and other species. Even though the hybrid is in the form of cells, not a whole organism, the concept of half-human creatures arouses deep anxiety, as is evident from the unfriendly powers ascribed to werewolves, centaurs, mermaids, minotaurs and other characters of myth and folklore."

I think of history repeating itself. I think of what some seers claim already happened in the days of ancient Atlantis. Regarding those mythical half human creatures of folklore, are they not representing to us remnants of something that did occur way back in the most ancient of times?

I'd be interested in others' comments on this.
