In my understanding of the term, a body is a sheath,
vehicle, upadhi for consciousness. They are also
"space suits" for the different planes of matter/energy.
Hence, the Annamayakosha or Sthula Sarira for the
Dense Physical Plane, the Linga Sarira or
Pranamayakosha for the etheric levels of the Physical Plane,
the Etheric Double also being a recepticle for the Vital Force
(Prana); the Astral Body or Kama Rupa or Sukshma
Sarira for the Astral Plane; the Manomayakosha or Mental
Body for the lower part of the Mental Plane; and the
Vijnanamayakosha (or Karana Sarira or Causal Body)
for the upper levels of the Mental Plane. The Anandamayakosha
or Bliss Body would be the vehicle for the Buddhic Plane.

It beats the hell out of me what "principles" are which is an
archaic term which ULTers insist on using. Because of
its nebulous meaning, the term was dropped in (gasp!)
neo-theosophical literature. Webster's Collegiate Dictionary
defines 'principle' as (1) "a comprehensive and fundamental
law, doctrine or assumption", (2) "a primary force", or (3)
"an underlying faculty or endowment".
