Frank, as you well know, HPB established the ES with great reluctance
knowing
that it would cause problems downstream. The real problem with any kind of
an ES is that it is only as good as its leadership. HPB and Judge were
probably
the only two people qualified. Without Gnosis, without a Leader who is also
an
Adept, the ES is just another organization. HPB was also deathly afraid of
creating any kind of "Halls of Magic" and yet this is exactly what the ES
became,
or it appeared that way to the Pasadena Leadership whose only real option
was
to disband it. I wasn't there, and so I only know what I read and hear. But
I did
get to know James Long, and he was one of the most loving and compassionate
persons I have ever met.
