Ramadoss:

You pointed out that the Mahachohan's letter didn't mention a mystery
school as a purpose of the T.S. and used this absence as a affirmative
argument that had the T.S. been intended as a mystery school, that intent
would have been mentioned there. Nothing personal, but that seems to be logic
similar to that used by christians to oppose things not mentioned in the
Bible.
I would suggest that we look at H.P.B.'s repeated efforts to form an
"inner group" out of her frustrations with the way the public T.S. was going,
and also her emphasis upon one's spiritual development. etc., as supporting
that the T.S. has a private purpose akin to the mystery schools. Such a
private purpose would not necessarily have been made public. I won't
presume to cite Leadbeater's "Masters and the Path" or Besant's works on
"Initiation", etc. , but would you consider Geoffry Hodson's diaries,
published a few years ago under the title, "The Light of the Sanctuary"
(sic?). Hodson in several places states that the T.S. has dual levels, a
public level based on "knowledge" and a private purpose, to acheive a seeker's
spiritual growth. He calls it a modern mystery school.
    Any comments?
