Very.  If true we would have no Red Cross, no shelters for the
homeless, hardly any nurses - I could go on.  However, there is always
the possibility that action ("help") on the physical plane IS part of the
larger plan - HPB's own behaviour suggests that it is, as Doss remarks.

Hindus and Buddhists all believe more or less in versions of
reincarnation and karma.  They all give alms, also.  If they didn't, then
their monasteries would never survive.
