    Absolutely, something is wrong. And I fell into the trap, myself, for
which I am quite sorry. Just because a bunch of people with nothing better
to do are trying to force an eminent historian to defend himself with
innuendo does not put any obligation on that historian. As a matter of fact,
if I had any reputation at all, I would stay far, far away from these lists.
There are just far too many people who cannot make a reputation for
themselves who feel that by destroying the reputation of others, they
somehow make themselves better than the others. If I accused you of being a
rapist, could you prove that you were NOT a rapist? How do you think you
would come off better; by fighting a never-ending accusation with made-up
evidence that is difficult or impossible to refute, or by simply not even
showing up?

    I do not know if Michael Gomes reads this list or not, or if he even
knows about what is being said about here, but I will no longer be a party
in this conversation.
