Dear Sophia, and all Friends on "theos-talk" :
I read and agree with your view on this matter. I do not think that
theos-talk ought to be the playground of bickerings of a personal nature at
all. I scan these matters and if they have no long-term relevance I delete
them without further notice, as I am sure all do. I was quite content for
David defending HPB's reputation. But, it seems to me this has gone
altogether too far.
This problem between Brenda and David has been going on without resolution
simply, as I read, because one offered an unsupported opinion and has not
been able to substantiate it with a reference that gives it a semblance of
observed truth, I mean the support of a third party's observations, or
logically, something that is "in line" with the statements or writings of
the person that is being criticized.
We are each entitled to our opinions. But we need not try to jam them down
another's throat, nor burden the assembled multitudes with any matter which
has no permanence or ultimate value.
I do not mean to jump into this affair, but rather to resolve it.
I would be quite content if I never hear of it again.
If Brenda's unsupported opinion is unsupported and an "opinion," then I
respect it. If it is accurate or inaccurate, she will have to bear the
"Karma" for it.
If the statement is one which impugns HPB's honor or veracity, without
proof, then I would join my voice to all those who demand, on HPB's
defenceless part (since she, as a personality, known to us as
H.P.Blavatsky, is now dead and gone) some actual proof of what is said.
If there is none except some personal opinion, then I would strongly
recommend that the original statement be withdrawn. It is important that
this be done, in view of the fact that HPB is defenceless, and it is not
fair in all humanity, to vilify anyone who is unable to answer or provide a
reply that sets the matter to rights.
That is all I have to say on this subject.
Very sincerely, W, Dallas TenBroeck
