Dear Bruce:

I have no argument with the facts of the healing that some can achieve with
the use of the will power directed at alleviating pain.

What I did say is that we know so little about the mechanics or the
inwardness of it. We do not know what forces interior to us and interior
to the pateint that may be invoked. I mean the invisible pranic and
astral, as also the respective "karma" of the individuals. All this ought
to be known to the Adept practitioner before anything can be done that is
of permanent value.

"Isis Unveiled" and other sources (mainly articles) are full of examples,
but that does not tell us how or why the operation is either succesful or
unsuccessful in various cases. There is no absolute criterion available.
It is "hit or miss," in a way.

Theosophy cautions against its use, as it may prove in the long run more
hurtful to the patient and the operator than present results suggest. The
question of karma and the relation of individual skandhas is mentioned, as
also the pranic currents and the elmental beings and forces of the "astral
plane." This is the "menu." Now how much is codified ?

I menion this because there is available in Theosophical literature the
basic information that enables anyone to see the way in which these healing
forces can work, and also the dangers involved. If you would like a list
of articles to survey, I can send you one.
 Dallas.
