This sounds an awful lot like the "calling down the gods" as
practiced in Santeria and Voodoo.  When I was younger and into
the thrill for occult manifestation, I was involved in a Santeria
group and I can assure the that when they gods "descend" they are
definitely not the ascended masters.  In fact, rather than gods
descending, it is more aligned with elementals ascending into
"sensitive" human hosts.  The superstition and primitiveness
associated with these rituals and practice bear this out.

Alpha is right.  If we truly believe in spiritual evolution we
need to pull ourselves up.
