Re:Personality

Even without endorsing the continuing ULT practice of anonymity,
I can see how its founders would have come to the conclusion that
this was the way out of the labyrinth of personality conflicts in
the TSes. At that point both societies were headed by flamboyant
extroverted leaders whose charisma enabled them to influence the
members in ways that many came to regard as misguided. ULT was
formed by people who had given up on the TSes and were looking
for an alternative to the constant warfare of personalities.

The problem with the solution adopted, IMO, is that denial and
repression simply don't address the underlying cause. Moreover,
they can actually be counterproductive by shoving the root
problem into the unconscious where it can't even be addressed.
Surely powerful personalities in ULT have just as much power as
in the TSes; it's just a different kind of power. But it seems
just as well entrenched as the power in the other groups.
