I agree with this whole-heartedly. At the same time I have been
impressed how "esoteric" a group can be without even really
trying. What I mean is that a humble study group, focused on
really learning the teachings, with no intention of forming a
Mystery School or anything like that, can actually draw on some
"energy" and inspiration which goes beyond anyone's expectations.
More than once I have been impressed by the tiny group at the
lodge here in San Francicso, hardly more than 8 or 10 on a good
day. We get into the material, and one after another people
offer up all kinds of insight in directions you would never think
to go -- politics, business, gardening, sewing, raising kids,
world religions. The philosophy seems to shed light on all these
things. And sometimes I have little bursts of insight that seem
to come from no where. I don't think I'm at all unique in that,
most people say that often their progress in the work isn't by
logical steps but by "chunking," by grasping chunks of the
teachings all at once, as it were, after working on them for a
while. I value all the Theosophical works, but HPB and Judge
especially seem to lend themselves to this intuitive process.
